Child in Depok Beaten by Police Officer's Son Over Running Race, Turns Out to Be Wrong Target
DEPOK — A 9-year-old boy with the initials F became a victim of mistaken identity when he was beaten and dragged as a result of a running race dispute in Gang Masjid, Curug, Cimanggis, Depok City.
Widya, F’s mother, stated that on Wednesday evening, 25 February 2026, she was caring for her four children at home. At that time, two boys with the initials R (11) and T were playing a running race near the incident location. In the competition, R lost.
“Eventually, after searching for the children who participated in the running race, they couldn’t find them, so they ended up finding my son (who had just come out of the house). My son was immediately beaten,” said Widya when met at her home on Friday, 27 February 2026.
Based on CCTV footage received by Kompas.com, screams and cries could be heard from the left side of the camera. Shortly afterwards, F was dragged by a young man and surrounded by several other boys. One boy, suspected to be R, was seen hitting the victim’s back with his flip-flop.
Widya learned of these actions after another child came to her house and reported the incident. Subsequently, Widya tried to contact T to clarify the misunderstanding affecting her son and to seek accountability. However, this resulted in mediation at Cimanggis Police Station and was resolved through restorative justice with the signing of a statement letter.
“From what I know from witnesses, my son was beaten by a child of a certain individual, that’s who beat him,” said Widya. “They did apologise, but it was only a superficial apology. As a parent, I need a sincere apology from them,” she added.
Separately, AKP Made Budi, Public Relations Chief of Metro Depok Police, confirmed the assault and dragging incident on Wednesday at around 21:30 Western Indonesia Time. The matter was resolved with an agreement not to proceed with legal proceedings.
“Yes, (one of the perpetrators) is the child of a police officer from Cimanggis Police Station,” said Made on Friday.
