Child Falls into Ragunan Zoo Elephant Enclosure: Management Suspects Prank or Social Media Content

Jakarta, KOMPAS.com - A young girl fell from a barrier wall into the elephant enclosure at Ragunan Zoo in South Jakarta.

Ragunan Zoo’s Head of Public Relations, Wahyudi Bambang, stated that the exact timing and sequence of events remain unclear, as no official report had been filed by staff regarding the incident.

According to circulating videos, the family was seen crossing the designated safety barrier around the animal enclosures.

“There are indications that visitors used the animals for jokes or social media content, evident from their lack of panic during the incident and continued filming,” Bambang said in a text message to Kompas.com on Monday, 1 June 2026.

Ragunan management will conduct a review to prevent recurrence.

The video, uploaded to TikTok account @niltasafitri2, has garnered 700,000 likes and 12,000 comments.

It shows a girl in a long-sleeved red shirt crying after falling into the elephant enclosure.

Her family appeared panicked and attempted to climb the barrier, which visitors are not supposed to cross.

After being rescued, the girl was immediately embraced by a woman in a headscarf, with the panic turning to laughter.
