Child Falls into Ragunan Wildlife Park Elephant Enclosure as Management Indicates Animals Used for Social Media Content

JAKARTA — A child reportedly fell into an elephant enclosure at Ragunan Wildlife Park in South Jakarta. The incident was uploaded by user @niltasafiitri2 on TikTok two days ago.

In the video, the child was seen inside the moat barrier within the elephant enclosure, with an elephant nearby. The child attempted to seek help and climb back up before being pulled out by a man shortly after.

Ragunan Wildlife Park’s Public Relations Chief, Wahyudi Bambang, confirmed the incident occurred at the park based on the video footage. However, he could not confirm the exact time of the event.

“The exact timing and sequence of events remain unclear as no reports were filed with staff during the incident,” Bambang told Republika on Saturday, 30 May 2026.

According to Bambang, the incident occurred due to insufficient supervision by the child’s parent or guardian, allowing the child to enter the enclosure. He added that the visitor was seen crossing the safety barrier in the animal enclosure area, and suspected they were using the animals for entertainment.

“There are indications the animals were used for entertainment or content by the visitor, evident from the lack of panic shown during the incident and continued filming,” he said.

Bambang stated that management has installed safety barriers and warning signs reminding visitors not to cross enclosure boundaries, as doing so endangers both visitors and animals.

He stated the park would review the incident and tighten surveillance to prevent recurrence.

“Ragunan Wildlife Park management will continue to review and enhance monitoring measures to prevent similar incidents in the future,” he said.
