Deputy Chairman of House of Representatives Commission III Ahmad Sahroni has called on police to immediately name a suspect in the case of a child in Sukabumi who died allegedly from abuse by a stepmother. He urged police to take the case seriously.

“I very strongly urge the police to be more serious and immediately designate a suspect in this case,” Sahroni said when contacted on Monday (23/2/2026).

Sahroni described the case as deeply wounding to the hearts of the Indonesian people. He even admitted to weeping upon seeing video footage of the victim circulating on social media.

“This case clearly wounds the hearts and conscience of all Indonesians. I cried when I watched the video,” he said.

The NasDem Party treasurer said the child abuse case in Sukabumi was not a difficult one to solve. He expressed confidence that there were plenty of witnesses and evidence.

“I believe this is not something complicated or a premeditated case that is hard to crack. This case occurred in the midst of the community — there must be many witnesses and evidence available. It simply comes down to how seriously the police pursue it,” he said.

The victim, identified by the initials NS, reportedly died on Thursday (19/2). At the hospital before drawing a final breath, the victim had disclosed being forced to drink boiling water by the stepmother.

The case remains under investigation by Sukabumi District Police. No party has yet been named as a suspect.
