Child Abuse at Little Aresha Daycare in Yogyakarta, DPR to Summon Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education
Jakarta, VIVA – Deputy Chairman of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the PKB Faction, Lalu Hadrian Irfani, has confirmed that his side will soon summon the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen), Abdul Mu’ti, to specifically discuss the child abuse case at a childcare facility or daycare.
“We will summon the education department. We ask the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education to tighten education and childcare standards at daycares,” Lalu said when confirmed in Jakarta on Tuesday, 28 April 2026.
This legislator from the Electoral District of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) II stressed that this case must be a serious concern for the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen). The ministry must even take concrete steps to resolve the issues existing in daycares.
Lalu emphasised that the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has a responsibility in guiding and supervising daycare operations through local education departments, while also playing a role in developing curriculum standards and early childhood care services.
“Supervision must be tightened, and daycare service standards must be strictly enforced. There can be no compromise on child safety and protection,” he said.
In addition, this Chairman of the PKB NTB Regional Leadership Council expressed deep concern over the alleged child abuse case at Little Aresha Daycare in Yogyakarta City.
Lalu strongly condemned the violent act and asserted that all forms of violence against children cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.
“We are deeply concerned and strongly condemn the alleged violence against children in the daycare environment. A place that should be a safe space has instead become the site of inhumane actions,” he stated.
Finally, Lalu urged the government to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of daycare management across Indonesia to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
Lalu said the child abuse case at the Yogyakarta daycare must serve as a momentum for the state to carry out comprehensive improvements regarding the existence of daycares in the country.
“The case at Little Aresha Daycare must become a momentum for comprehensive improvement, including strengthening the child protection and supervision system. The state must be present to ensure every child receives maximum protection,” Lalu asserted firmly.
Previously, the Yogyakarta Police Resort had named 13 individuals as suspects in the alleged child abuse case at Little Aresha Daycare in Yogyakarta on Saturday, 25 April 2026.
