Chief minister: investment ranking not a goal

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Coordinating Minister for the Economy Boediono said here on Thursday that the government would not pay too much attention to a ranking set by a certain institution that caused the country to remain as a not interesting place to do business, but would rather concentrate on implementing policies to improve investment climate.

"Ranking is not our ultimate goal. Our goal is making investors to come to the country and this has already happened in Batam, and many more will follow. Ranking is not our goal. We are focussing more on implementation of what is considered important," he said.

The World Bank and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) recently downgraded Indonesia`s rank in providing facilities to investors from the world`s 131st last year to 135th.

Boediono said he hoped with its policy package, the government could immediately change the prevailing investment climate in the country.

"We are continuing to implement the policies as best as we could and consistently attract investors," he said.(*)
