Chicken Prices Soar Due to Free Nutritious Meal Programme, Housewives Cry Out

Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows a rising trend in the Price Development Index (IPH) for broiler chicken meat up to the first week of August 2026, affecting 188 districts and cities throughout Indonesia. CNBC Indonesia Commodity Expert Emmanuella Egatirta stated that the current increase in chicken meat prices is inseparable from the impact of rising demand for the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme. In addition to chicken meat, the prices of milk, chillies, and eggs have also experienced increases due to weather conditions, feed prices, and distribution issues.
