Jakarta (ANTARA) - Trade Minister Budi Santoso has confirmed that the national average price of broiler chicken remains under control ahead of Ramadan.

According to data from the Market and Basic Commodities Monitoring System (SP2KP) as of 13 February 2026, the price of broiler chicken was recorded at Rp40,259 per kilogram. The Trade Minister stressed that although there have been reports of chicken prices reaching Rp45,000 per kilogram in several markets, this figure does not represent the national average.

“It means there are indeed prices at Rp45,000, but there are certainly also prices below Rp40,000. So it does not mean the national average is Rp45,000. However, we will still investigate those higher prices,” said Budi after attending the Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr Affordable Market event at the Ministry of Trade offices in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He said the government would examine markets recording high prices to determine whether the cause is disrupted distribution or a surge in local demand.

The government is targeting prices to remain within the range of the reference purchase price (HAP) and the maximum retail price (HET).

Based on coordination with industry players, Budi said chicken supply is sufficient and there are no production disruptions, including with regard to feed prices.

Budi said the price increases that have occurred are more attributable to rising demand ahead of major religious holidays.

“Typically, as Lebaran approaches, demand increases. But we are asking for this to be anticipated. Even during Lebaran or the Christmas and New Year period, supply must be maintained. So when demand surges, prices must remain stable,” he said.

The Ministry of Trade, the National Food Agency (Bapanas), the Ministry of Agriculture, regional governments, the National Police, and the Food Task Force are continuing to monitor prices both directly at markets and through the SP2KP system.

Besides chicken, the national average price of chicken eggs was recorded at Rp30,570 per kilogram. The Trade Minister noted that in several regions prices are even lower, such as Rp28,000 in Sukoharjo and Rp29,000 per kilogram in Palembang.

The government is optimistic that price stability and adequate supply can be maintained throughout Ramadan, enabling the public to observe their religious duties without being burdened by surging prices for basic commodities.
