President Prabowo’s administration continues to advance the flagship Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme, designed to improve public nutrition while tackling malnutrition and stunting. The fulfilment of nutritional needs under the MBG scheme is also expected to create jobs and boost the welfare of farmers and micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM) linked to food supply at Nutritional Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG). Sri Mulyani, President Director of PT Janu Putra Sejahtera Tbk (AYAM), stated that the MBG programme has increased demand for chicken and eggs by up to 16% as ingredients for the meals. Although AYAM supplies SPPG requirements, it is not yet the company’s primary market, given its massive production of 1,000 tonnes per month for the Yogyakarta and Solo markets, with SPPG absorbing only 15%. AYAM, a publicly listed poultry company providing chicken and eggs for consumption, views the MBG programme as a potential source of guaranteed demand for chicken farmers.
