A massive fire engulfed a two-storey chicken coop in the Tempek Soga area, Banjar Geria, Ayunan Village, Abian Lele District, Badung Regency, Bali, on Thursday (1/10/2026). Approximately 15,000 broiler chicks were burnt to death in the incident. The coop structure was also completely destroyed, leaving only debris.

“Yes, the incident occurred around 9 am. According to reports from the three workers, the fire started from above, on the second floor. The workers were still on the ground floor,” said farm worker Lalu Dika at the scene.

Dika stated that the flames spread very rapidly, meaning the workers on the lower floor did not initially realise there was a fire. They only became aware of the situation after hearing the crackling of wood and small explosions coming from the upper floor.

“We knew when we heard the crackling and small explosions. Then the workers ran out and saw that there was already a large fire,” said Dika.

The workers attempted to extinguish the fire by manually splashing water, but the rapidly growing flames overwhelmed them. The workers eventually abandoned their efforts and chose to evacuate for safety.

Dika added that the entire population of broiler chicks in the coop could not be saved. Fortunately, the fire did not result in any fatalities or injuries among the workers.

“Only the 15,000 chicks were lost; thankfully, no workers were injured. At the time of the incident, I was harvesting at another coop in Cau Belayu, and the workers called to inform me of the fire,” Dika revealed.

The chicken coop, owned by I Gusti Ayu Gayatri Mithayarani (33), was eventually extinguished after four units of the Badung Regency Fire Department were deployed to the location. The firefighting process lasted until 11:15 WITA.

Once the fire was extinguished, the police conducted a crime scene investigation to determine the cause of the blaze.

Acting Police Chief of Abiansemal, AKP I Komang Juniawan, stated that the fire caused material losses of approximately Rp 3 billion. These losses include the coop building, 15,000 chicks, feed machinery, and blowers.

“Material losses are estimated to reach around Rp 3 billion. Because it consumed the entire building, 15,000 chicks, as well as feed machines and blowers, everything was burnt,” said Juniawan.

Based on the investigation by the Badung Police Identification Unit, no fatalities were found. Police suspect an electrical short circuit was the primary cause of the sparks on the second floor of the coop.

“The heating blowers, cooling blowers, and feed machinery were burnt. There is a suspicion that the initial cause of the fire was an electrical short circuit in the MCB on the second floor,” explained Juniawan.
