Chery utilised the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026 to introduce its latest model, the Tiggo V. Indonesia was chosen as the first country for the vehicle’s global debut before it is marketed to several other Southeast Asian nations. The model, previously introduced as the Chery X concept car, is scheduled for an official launch in the fourth quarter of 2026. Its arrival is part of Chery’s strategy to expand its product line in Indonesia, following the introduction of battery electric vehicles (BEV), hybrids, and range extender electric vehicles (REEV).

President Director of Chery Group Indonesia, Zheng Shuo, stated that the Tiggo V is not merely a global model brought into Indonesia. The vehicle was developed with the involvement of Chery’s teams in Indonesia and China over approximately two years, through research and discussions with prospective consumers in the country. ‘The Tiggo V is a model specially prepared for Indonesia. Over the past two years, teams from both countries have collaborated to perfect the vehicle by gathering various inputs from the public as the basis for its development,’ Zheng Shuo explained at GIIAS 2026.

Vice Country Director of Chery Business Unit PT Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI), Budi Darmawan Jantania, echoed this sentiment, noting that the name change from Chery X to Tiggo V marks the vehicle’s global debut from Indonesia. He said, ‘We are the first global debut. Afterwards, it will be followed by several other countries in Southeast Asia.’ The decision to launch first in Indonesia was based on two years of research into the character of Indonesian consumers, including road conditions, vehicle usage patterns, and family needs, which were deemed different from other markets.

Conceptually, the Tiggo V is designed as a multifunctional vehicle that merges the characteristics of a sport utility vehicle (SUV), multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), and a pickup-style utility vehicle onto a single platform. Chery calls this approach a ‘3-in-1 Family Vehicle’ concept to meet the needs of consumers wanting a versatile vehicle. The car offers cabin flexibility through three seating configurations: 2+3+2 for seven passengers, 2+3+3 accommodating eight passengers, and a 2+2+3 layout with captain seats in the second row. Additionally, the Tiggo V is equipped with an ‘Easy Turn’ feature claimed to assist manoeuvring in tight spaces. Another unique feature is a removable roof panel, allowing the vehicle to be adapted for various needs, from a family car to transporting large items. In terms of dimensions, the Tiggo V measures 4,910 mm in length, 1,921 mm in width, and 1,790 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm and ground clearance of 220 mm. Chery will offer the model with a conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) and Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) technology. For the hybrid variant, the manufacturer claims the vehicle can travel up to 1,030 kilometres on a single tank of fuel and a full battery charge.
