Chery Serious About Turning Indonesia into Automotive Production Hub
WUHU, KOMPAS.com – Chery’s ambitions to strengthen its position in Indonesia are becoming increasingly evident. Not only as a sales market, Indonesia is also projected to become a production base for the Chinese carmaker in the future. President Director of Chery Group Indonesia, Zeng Shuo, said that this step will be taken in line with the growth in sales volume in the country. “When sales volume increases, we will certainly build local production. We see Indonesia as a very promising market in the future, given its population, which is the fourth largest in the world, and dominated by the young generation,” Zeng stated in Wuhu, China, on Tuesday (29/4/2026). According to him, Indonesia’s demographic characteristics are one of the main reasons Chery is seriously targeting the domestic market. In line with this potential, Chery also reaffirmed its commitment to further investment, including making Indonesia a production centre. “We are also optimistic about the future and want to make Indonesia a production base (production hub) for Chery,” he said. This step is in line with the trend of several global carmakers starting to make Indonesia a production hub for the Southeast Asian region. In addition to the large market, government support for the automotive industry and electrification is also a particular attraction.
