Chery Q vs Jaecoo J5 EV: China's Rp200m Electric SUV Duel
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The recent arrival of the Chery Q electric vehicle is predicted to immediately intensify competition in Indonesia’s compact electric SUV market. The model is likely to directly compete with the Jaecoo J5 EV, which has already been sold in the domestic market.
Both are targeting the compact electric SUV segment with modern designs aimed at urban young families.
The Chery Q measures 4,195mm in length, 1,811mm in width, 1,573mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,700mm. These dimensions provide a spacious cabin suitable for daily use and family trips.
The Jaecoo J5 EV, meanwhile, has larger dimensions: 4,380mm long, 1,860mm wide, 1,650mm tall, and a wheelbase of 2,620mm. Its design leans more towards a sporty and premium SUV.
In terms of performance, the Chery Q is equipped with a 121hp electric motor producing 115Nm of torque and rear-wheel drive (RWD). It uses a 41.28kWh LFP battery with a claimed range of 420km under CLTC testing or approximately 400km under NEDC estimates.
The Chery Q also supports fast charging, enabling a 30% to 80% charge in just 16.5 minutes.
The Jaecoo J5 EV, however, offers higher performance with a 200hp electric motor providing a sportier and more responsive driving experience.
The Jaecoo J5 EV also features a larger battery capacity focused on performance and comfort for medium to long-distance travel, making it suitable for both urban use and intercity trips.
Beyond performance, the Chery Q is equipped with modern features to enhance urban mobility.
The Chery Q features a 6.6kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) system, a 540-degree camera, Autonomous Parking Assist (APA), a power frunk, and 38 interior storage compartments. It also includes 20 ADAS functions and six airbags for safety.
The Jaecoo J5 EV also comes with a comprehensive suite of features for its compact electric SUV class. It includes 19 ADAS features with Level 2 semi-autonomous technology such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking, and Blind Spot Detection.
To aid manoeuvring, the Jaecoo J5 EV also features a 540-degree camera and automatic parallel parking, simplifying navigation in tight spaces.
Inside the cabin, the Jaecoo J5 EV features a 13.2-inch touchscreen as the central control for entertainment and vehicle settings. Additional features include a large panoramic sunroof, electric seats with ventilation, ambient lighting, and a total of 35 interior storage compartments.
