Chery Offers Cost-Efficient Hybrid Vehicle Models Amid Discussions on Fuel Price Increases
Rising global energy prices and discussions on adjusting fuel prices are making vehicle operational costs a major concern for many car users. Fuel expenses, whether for daily commutes or long-distance travel, are increasingly impacting household budgets.
In this situation, energy efficiency has become a key factor consumers consider when choosing vehicles. Chery Sales Indonesia states that hybrid technology is one approach offered to reduce vehicle operational costs.
One model Chery offers to address this issue is the Chery Tiggo 8 CSH. Based on Chery’s simulation, assuming fuel prices of Rp12,300 per litre and average vehicle usage of 40 kilometres per day or about 1,200 kilometres per month, the combined energy consumption of electricity and fuel is around 184 kWh and 15.8 litres of petrol. With this calculation, the estimated monthly mobility cost is about Rp506,000.
Chery states that this figure can be lower than for conventional vehicles in the same class. However, the amount of savings still depends on vehicle usage patterns and driving conditions.
The technology used in the Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) system combines a petrol engine and electric motor. This system includes the ACTECO 1.5TGDI engine and a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) designed to enhance energy efficiency.
In addition to that model, Chery also markets the Chery Tiggo 9 CSH, which uses similar technology. One user, Leyana Riesca, shares her experience on a long-distance trip using the vehicle.
“I tried a trip from Bogor to Surabaya with normal driving style, sometimes accelerating, sometimes relaxed. Interestingly, I didn’t need to refuel at all during the journey. The efficiency was very noticeable, and I was also impressed with its power performance. Overall, the round-trip cost from Bogor–Surabaya–Bogor, about 1,600 km for one family, was around Rp700,000 for fuel, plus charging costs of less than Rp200,000. This shows very significant efficiency for such a long distance,” said Leyana.
The hybrid system in this vehicle is designed to automatically switch between pure electric mode and hybrid mode according to driving conditions. This technology has been tested in several countries with various road characteristics, from urban areas to mountain routes.
Besides vehicle technology, energy efficiency is also influenced by the vehicle’s condition and driving style. Several factors often cited as affecting fuel consumption include proper tyre pressure, regular maintenance, and stable driving without sudden acceleration or braking. The use of vehicle features like air conditioning and electronic devices can also affect energy consumption during trips.
Chery itself began marketing its products in Indonesia since 2022 through PT Chery Sales Indonesia with several models, including the Tiggo series, C5, E5, and J6. The company also introduced a global after-sales service programme known as Chery Family Care to support customer services.
