Cheil improves waste processing
SURABAYA: Cheil Samsung Indonesia, a Korean food seasoning company which became the target of violent demonstrations by local residents for allegedly polluting the river last year, announced yesterday it has "improved" its sewerage.
The company directors reported the improvement to East Java Deputy Governor Abdul Hamid when the latter visited the company's compound in Rejoso village, Pasuruan regency.
All waste conduits now end at a waste installation, rather than going directly to the surrounding ditches or the Rejoso River, Antara reported.
"We apologize to the local people," H.C. Hong, a director, said. (swe)
