MALANG – As the mudik season approaches, vehicle condition becomes a critical consideration. Proper car preparation can help long-distance journeys become safer, more comfortable, and encounter fewer roadside issues.

M Taufik R, Service Manager at Honda Mandalasena Malang, reminded travellers to conduct comprehensive vehicle inspections before departing.

“For long-distance mudik travel, vehicles should be properly prepared,” Taufik told Kompas.com on Saturday (14 March 2026).

“First, check the tyre pressure. Tyre pressure must be checked to standard specifications so that during travel, tyre conditions remain more stable,” he said.

According to him, correct tyre pressure is essential for maintaining vehicle stability during long journeys, particularly when cars carry more passengers and cargo than usual.

“Second, check the brake fluid. Brake fluid functions during braking, keeping the braking system stable and preventing it from overheating,” he said.

Checking vehicle fluids is equally important. Taufik emphasised that car owners must ensure radiator coolant and windscreen washer fluid levels are adequate before undertaking long journeys.

“Third, you must check the radiator coolant and windscreen washer fluid. What is the purpose? Windscreen washer fluid helps when there is light rain or dirt, so it can be wiped more effectively,” he explained.

“This means all fluids must be checked. For engine oil, it is best to have it changed before mudik, and then service your car beforehand,” Taufik said.

According to Taufik, most consumers undertaking mudik trips typically conduct periodic maintenance services at authorised workshops first.

In such services, the most common work performed includes engine oil and oil filter changes, as well as inspection of various important vehicle components.

“Usually customers just change the engine oil and oil filter. Beyond that, there is suspension inspection, tyre pressure checking, brake pad inspection, radiator coolant checking, and also disc brake inspection,” Taufik said.
