Majalengka Regency — A cheap rice market operation was conducted at a number of government-owned markets in Majalengka Regency. The move aims to stabilise food prices, curb inflation, and assist residents.

The operation was carried out by the Majalengka Regency’s Department of Trade and Industry (Disperdagin) in cooperation with Bulog Subdrive Cirebon. There were four locations for the operation.

The four locations were Kadipaten Market, Cigasong Market, Talaga Market, and Prapatan Sumberjaya Market. In its implementation, Disperdagin supplied 10 tonnes of medium-grade rice at each market. The rice was sold at Rp 11,600 per kilogram, Rp 900 cheaper than the Highest Retail Price (HET) of Rp 12,500 per kilogram.

Head of the Market Section at the Department of Trade and Industry, Majalengka Regency, Taufikurrohman, said the cheap market operation is one of the local government’s steps to safeguard residents’ purchasing power amid fluctuations in the prices of staple goods. ‘We carry out these market operations regularly in cooperation with Bulog Subdrive Cirebon to help people obtain rice at a more affordable price,’ he said.

He explained that the cheap market operation is scheduled to take place every Monday and Thursday at various government markets to ensure the distribution of staple goods reaches more residents.

‘In the future we plan not only to distribute rice but also to run cheap cooking oil operations so that the community is better able to meet daily needs,’ he added.
