Jakarta — To enliven the Ramadan 1447 H charitable activities programme and strengthen social commitment towards the community, the Central Leadership of Muslimat Nahdlatul Ulama (PP Muslimat NU) organised a Cheap Redemption Market event in collaboration with Artha Graha Peduli.

Ramadan is an important period for Muslims to enhance the quality of their worship whilst simultaneously strengthening social solidarity. During this period, household needs tend to increase, particularly for suhoor (pre-dawn meal), breaking the fast, and preparations for Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

Demand for various essential commodities such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, eggs, and meat typically experiences significant increases before the holidays. This is often accompanied by rising prices in the market, which can strain purchasing power, particularly for low-income groups.

For poor families, orphans and abandoned children, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and informal sector workers such as daily labourers, rising essential commodity prices frequently become an additional burden in meeting daily needs. Consequently, social activities that provide access to food at affordable prices represent concrete steps in alleviating the community’s burden.

As the largest women’s organisation within Nahdlatul Ulama, PP Muslimat NU consistently implements various Ramadan charitable programmes encompassing religious and community social activities. These programmes include Quranic recitation, Quranic completion (khatmil Quran), early childhood Islamic schools, online tafsir (Quranic exegesis) studies, and social activities such as distributing essential goods packages to those in need.

As part of these activities, PP Muslimat NU organised the Cheap Redemption Market held at the PP Muslimat NU office on Saturday, 14 March 2026. Through this event, the community obtained basic necessity packages at more affordable prices.

The event was also attended by Khofifah Indar Parawansa, Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of PP Muslimat NU, who greeted the community during a break in her schedule.

Arifah Fauzi, Chairwoman of PP Muslimat NU and Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, stated in her remarks that Muslimat NU possesses an exceptionally extensive organisational network extending to grassroots level. Currently, Muslimat NU has 37 Regional Leadership bodies at provincial level, 10 Special Branch Leadership bodies abroad, 560 Branch Leadership bodies at district and municipal level, 5,225 Sub-Branch Leadership bodies at sub-district level, and more than 36,000 Branch Unit Leadership bodies at village and urban ward level.

“With such a vast organisational network, Muslimat NU actively implements various social, educational, religious, and community development activities, particularly those related to improving family and community welfare,” she said.

Event Chairwoman Hj Patimasang, affectionately known as Kak Ima, explained that the Cheap Redemption Market was initiated by the Economic Division of PP Muslimat NU with collaborative support from Artha Graha Peduli. “Through this activity, the community can obtain affordable essential goods packages with the theme ‘Affordable, Blessed, and Beneficial’. Today’s implementation represents the inaugural event at the PP Muslimat NU office, and God willing, after Eid al-Fitr, similar activities will be held at several other locations,” she explained.

This activity is expected to provide tangible benefits to the community whilst serving as a manifestation of synergy between community organisations and social institutions in strengthening values of care and togetherness during the holy month of Ramadan.
