JAKARTA: Lin Che Wei, the former president of PT SG Indonesia, won the Most Popular Analyst award in a poll of the financial community.

Che Wei was ranked first by the 1,500 poll respondents, comprising individual and institutional investors, journalists, publicly listed companies and investment managers.

Presenting Che Wei with his award on Wednesday night at the Grand Hyatt Hotel was a representative of Prospektif magazine.

Che Wei made his name with analyses of such incidents as the downfall of Asia Pulp & Paper Company Ltd. (APP) and the sale of Bank Central Asia (BCA).

With 18.11 percent of the votes, he beat out fellow analysts Goei Siauw Hong, who is the head of research at PT Nomura Indonesia; Budi Ruseno, the vice president of PT Bhakti Capital Indonesia; Ferry Latuhihin, the assistant vice president at the Danareksa Research Institute; and Hendra Bujang, the head of corporate finance and research at PT Meridian Capital Indonesia.
