Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Roeslani has assured that the government is not carelessly accepting investments entering the country. The capital investments must be of high quality, providing tangible impacts for both the national and regional economies. He explained that to support the 8 percent economic growth target set by President Prabowo Subianto, the government has established an investment target for the 2025-2029 period amounting to Rp13,032.8 trillion. This value represents a 143 percent increase compared to the investment realisation over the last 10 years. “Our investment strategy is not solely about chasing large nominations or nominal figures, but also targeting how incoming investment is quality investment, while simultaneously focusing on realisation or implementation acceleration, as well as contributing to economic strengthening both regionally and nationally,” Rosan stated during a meeting with Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives in Jakarta on Monday, 15 June 2026. Furthermore, according to Rosan, although the investment target has increased significantly, the government continues to place investment quality as the main priority to create added value, accelerate implementation, and strengthen the national economic structure. He further conveyed that amidst global geopolitical and economic dynamics, BKPM recorded investment realisation in the first quarter of 2026 reaching Rp498.8 trillion. This achievement grew by 7.2 percent year-on-year and has fulfilled approximately 24.4 percent of the 2026 investment target. The investment realisation also successfully absorbed around 700,000 direct workers, an increase of 18.9 percent compared to the same period the previous year. In terms of investment sources, Domestic Direct Investment contributed approximately 49.9 percent or Rp248.8 trillion, growing around 6 percent year-on-year. Meanwhile, Foreign Direct Investment accounted for 50.1 percent or approximately Rp250 trillion. The main sectors contributing to investment include the base metals industry, services, mining, housing and industrial estates, as well as transportation, warehousing, and telecommunications. Rosan also highlighted the increasing contribution of natural resource-based investments, which reached 30 percent of total investment realisation in the first quarter of 2026, valued at Rp147.5 trillion. Looking ahead, he said his office will continue to encourage investment in strategic commodities that produce high-value-added products, such as semiconductors, bioethanol, coconut derivative products, and seaweed-based downstreaming.
