Charlie Chandra Clarifies Land Deed Forgery Case

Charlie Chandra, who has been convicted in a land document forgery case, has clarified the matter concerning land documents in Lemo Village, Teluknaga, Tangerang Regency. Charlie Chandra stated that the disputed document is not related to an SHM or Certificate of Freehold Title, but rather to Annex 13, which is a National Land Agency (BPN) form.

“The document disputed in this criminal case is not SHM Number 5/Lemo, but the information in Annex 13, namely a BPN form for recording the transfer of title due to inheritance,” said Charlie Chandra in his statement delivered through his right of reply, as received on Wednesday (7/9/2026).

Charlie Chandra explained that the BPN form was provided by the Tangerang Regency Land Office and had been filled in and signed by Sukamto as the PPAT (Land Deed Official) acting as attorney-in-fact for Charlie Chandra. In this case, Charlie Chandra was sentenced to four years in prison after being found to have participated in the falsification of documents.

The case then proceeded to the appeal stage, where the Banten High Court reduced the sentence to one year in prison. Charlie Chandra’s involvement in the case related to the filling in of the BPN form, which contained untrue information.

Regarding the transfer of ownership by sale from The Pit Nio to Chairil Widjaja and then to Sumitra Chandra as Charlie Chandra’s father, Charlie Chandra’s side asserted that it was lawful based on a civil court ruling. However, the ruling of the appeal panel of judges at the Banten High Court stated otherwise.

Charlie Chandra also referred to the testimony of Aries, an employee of the Regional Office of the National Land Agency of Banten Province, holding the position of Coordinator of the Substantive Group for the Determination of Land and Space Rights in the Field of Rights Determination and Registration, at the hearing on 18 November 2025, in accordance with Tangerang District Court Decision No 1805/Pid.B/2025/PN Tng. At that time, Aries, according to Charlie Chandra, explained that the land book data at the Tangerang Regency Land Office stated that SHM Number 5/Lemo was registered and still valid under the name of Sumita Chandra, covering an area of 87,100 square metres.
