Charles wins city song contest
JAKARTA (JP): A song entitled Jakarta Teguh Beriman composed by prominent musician and composer Charles Hutagalung won the city's song writing competition under the theme of Jakarta's slogan, Teguh Beriman (a healthy, secure, humane and satisfying lifestyle) beating five other entries.
The song, sung by Kelompok Penyanyi Jalanan (Street Singers Group), got the nod from the judges who announced the results of the contest at the Jakarta Arts Center on Tuesday, Antara reported.
The chairman of the jury, FX Sutopo also announced that the runner-up was another song with the same title, Jakarta Teguh Beriman. The song was composed by Angga Widodo and sung by Mayank Sari.
Three of the six nominated songs had the same title, Jakarta Teguh Beriman, written by Charles, Dini Sidin and Angga Widodo respectively.
Teguh Beriman is an abbreviation of 'Teruskan gerakan untuk hidup bersih, indah, menarik, manusiawi and aman'. The competition was primarily aimed at popularizing the slogan among Jakartans.
Third place went to a song entitled Kharisma Jakarta written by Weddy Chandra and sung by Marten Uwuratuw.
Members of the board of judges were notable musicians, composers and singers including Titiek Puspa, Sadikin Zuchra, Bartje Van Houten, Chandra Darusman, Anton Issudibyo and Dharma Oratmangun.
Tuesday's final was attended by Jakarta's deputy governor in charge of people's welfare affairs, R.S. Museno, and featured six entries, which beat 153 other entries from various provinces to reach the finals.
Sutopo said the board of judges based their judgments on the melody and lyrics of the songs as well as the performances of the singers. (bas)
