Charity group visits new park

JAKARTA (JP): Mrs. Try Sutrisno, wife of Vice President Try Sutrisno, visited the Nusantara Flower Park in Kawung Luwuk village, Sukaresmi district, Cianjur, about 80 kilometers to the south of here.

During the visit, Mrs. Try, who was accompanied by women of the Ria Pembangunan charity organization grouping the wives of top government officials, was met by Mrs. Dani Bustanil Arifin in her capacity as head of the Bunga Nusantara Foundation.

The park, billed to be one of the largest in the world, has a collection of a wide variety of flowers from all over the world.

The project, built on a 30-hectare plot of land, is scheduled to be inaugurated by President Soeharto in September.

Mrs. Try expressed her satisfaction after going around the park. "Each project should give additional value to its developer either in the form of income or knowledge," Mrs. Try was quoted by Antara as saying.

According to her, holding training courses on flowers will add value not only for farmers but also the public with the creation of new seeds.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Dani said that the idea of developing the Nusantara Flower Park was formed when she led a mission of the Bunga Nusantara Foundation to the Tournament of Roses in Pasadena several years ago.

However, establishing such a park is not an easy task because of the amount of funds required and the difficulties in collecting various types of flowers in the country, she said.

Through hard work and with the help of Russel Autrey, a horticulture expert from the United States, however, the project has been realized in stages, she added. (hhr)
