Charity film for Kupang

JAKARTA (JP): A newly-founded network of groups of concerned professionals called Kotak (Box) is to hold a charity showing of a Hollywood film on Sunday morning to help victims of the recent clashes in the East Nusa Tenggara capital of Kupang.

Project officer Achmad Rijandi told a news conference here on Friday that funds collected from ticket sales for the single showing of Enemy of the State at the Studio 21 cineplex at Senayan Plaza in South Jakarta would be handed over to a Kupang NGO.

The charity show, dubbed "two hours for Kupang", would start at 10 a.m, Rijandi said.

He, however gave no explanation of the ticket price nor whether all the funds would be contributed to the NGO, which works to help restore the local riot-torn community.

With an American setting, the film, featuring famed American actor Will Smith, is about a lawyer who is badly wanted by both the Mob and security authorities.

A riot with religious overtones tore Kupang apart last November, leaving dozens of places of worship destroyed and caused thousands of migrant Muslims to flee from the Christian- dominated island.

"We need to enhance communication and mutual understanding between different elements ... and create a deeper sense of tolerance," Rijandi said.

The Kotak secretariat for Sunday's event is at Jl. Surabaya No. 8, telephone number 315 5261-4. (aan)
