Chaotic development
Chaotic development
From Republika
After reading the article about the Javanese rhinoceros in the Republika Nov. 1, 1994, I was delighted but at the same time concerned over the situation around Ujung Kulon National Park.
The article is very sincere and exciting. But it is saddening to learn that most of the land in the area is owned by Jakarta residents, companies, various pensioner organizations and conglomerates. They are racing to construct luxurious houses, hotels and, of course, golf courses.
I happened to see the development of Labuan which is the gate to the National Park and realized how chaotic the development is. The projects -- the town planning, market, terminal, greening, pavement construction etc. -- seem to be incredibly disorganized. Please, regional legislators and administrators, could you go there and look into the matter!
