Chaos at US Consulate Following Attack on Iran, 25 Dead

Demonstrations erupted in response to the US and Israeli military strike that killed Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

In Iraq, police fired tear gas and stun grenades to disperse hundreds of pro-Iran demonstrators gathered outside the Green Zone in the capital Baghdad, where the US Embassy is located. Both Pakistan and Iraq have the largest Shia Muslim populations after Iran.

In Karachi, demonstrators forced their way through outer security layers at the US Consulate. They set a vehicle ablaze outside the main gate and clashed with police. At least 25 demonstrators were killed during the demonstrations. Karachi Civil Hospital confirmed that all those who died and were injured were struck by gunfire.

Sounds of gunfire and tear gas being deployed echoed through streets surrounding the diplomatic complex. The provincial government has ordered a high-level investigation to determine how the situation escalated and to identify those responsible.
