Channel normalisation on Jalan Sri Gading targeted for completion by end of July

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Water Resources Implementation Unit (Satpel SDA) of Senen Sub-district, Central Jakarta, is targeting completion of drainage normalisation works on Jalan Sri Gading RT 09/RW 01, Kramat, by the end of July 2026.

Head of Satpel SDA Senen Sub-district, Zulfahmi, said the normalisation works began on 18 June 2026 and involve 11 personnel.

“The normalisation follows up on residents’ aspirations voiced through RW-level deliberations up to the 2025 Musrenbang,” Zulfahmi said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday.

He said the works cover the normalisation of channels on both sides of the road along 148 metres, using concrete U-ditches measuring 40 x 40 x 120 centimetres.

He explained that the old channel lies beneath the road surface, making it difficult to clean and prone to silting due to accumulated mud and rubbish.

This condition was assessed as reducing the channel’s capacity to carry water during rainfall.

“The old channel is already under the road and filled with rubbish and piles of mud,” he said.

One resident of RT 09/RW 01 Kramat, Yemina (45), expressed appreciation for the drainage normalisation works for following up on the community’s aspirations.

According to her, the channel repairs have made the neighbourhood tidier and the road appear wider.

Residents also hope the normalisation will reduce the potential for puddles when it rains.

“With the channel repairs, the road looks wider and tidier, and we are no longer worried about flooding when it rains,” said Yemina.
