Channel normalisation on Jalan Sri Gading targeted for completion by end of July
The Water Resources Implementation Unit (Satpel SDA) of Senen District, Central Jakarta, is targeting the completion of drainage channel normalisation works on Jalan Sri Gading, RT 09/RW 01, Kramat Urban Village, by the end of July 2026. Head of the Senen District Satpel SDA, Zulfahmi, stated that the normalisation work began on 18 June 2026 and involves 11 personnel. “The normalisation follows up on residents’ aspirations voiced through neighbourhood forums up to the 2025 Musrenbang level,” Zulfahmi said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday. He explained that the work covers the normalisation of channels on both sides of the road spanning 148 metres, using u-ditch concrete measuring 40 x 40 x 120 centimetres. The old channel was located beneath the road surface, making it difficult to clean and causing it to become shallow due to accumulated mud and rubbish. This condition was deemed to reduce the channel’s capacity to drain water during rainfall. “The old channel was already under the road and filled with rubbish and piles of mud,” he said. A resident of RT 09/RW 01, Kramat Urban Village, Yemina (45), appreciated the channel normalisation work for following up on the community’s aspirations. According to her, the channel repairs have made the environment tidier and the road surface appear wider. Residents also hope the normalisation will reduce the potential for puddles when it rains. “With the channel repairs, the road looks wider and neater, and we are not worried about puddles forming when it rains,” Yemina said.
