Changes in Finance Minister Will Not Deter US Investors, Says USABC

The US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) believes that the dynamics of changing Finance Ministers do not significantly affect the interest of US companies in investing in Indonesia, provided that such changes in officials are not accompanied by major shifts in policy.

Marc Mealy, Executive Vice President of Research and Chief Policy Officer at USABC, stated that foreign investors generally understand that changes in ministerial-level officials occur, and therefore, such transitions do not immediately influence investment decisions.

“In general, for most corporate investors undertaking foreign direct investment, we understand that changes in officials at the ministerial level can occur,” Mealy said in Jakarta on Wednesday.

According to him, a change in the Finance Minister would only become a concern for investors if it brought about significant changes to government policy.

“As long as it does not mean there is a major change in policy, it does not mean we no longer wish to invest simply because the Finance Minister has changed,” he added.

On this occasion, USABC also launched the US Business for Indonesia (BISA) 2026 report. USABC noted that the realised investment from US companies in Indonesia from 2020 to the first semester of 2025 reached US$14.85 billion, or approximately Rp259.9 trillion.
