Change of National Nutrition Agency Head: East Java DPRD Views Government as Responsive to Public

The East Java Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), through member Cahyo Harjo Prakoso, has assessed that President Prabowo Subianto’s decision to replace the Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Dadan Hindayana, demonstrates the government’s commitment to refining the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme in response to public aspirations.

Cahyo noted that the appointment of Nanik S. Deyang as the new Head of the BGN is intended to ensure that the MBG programme operates more effectively and with measurable outcomes. “This change in leadership shows the government’s response to various inputs and aspirations from the community regarding the implementation of the MBG programme. It is part of an effort to refine the system so that the programme can run more efficiently,” Cahyo stated in Surabaya on Wednesday.

According to the legislator from Commission E of the East Java DPRD, the evaluation conducted by the central government demonstrates a serious commitment to maintaining the quality of programme implementation. He emphasised that the MBG is not merely a food distribution scheme, but a long-term investment in Indonesia’s human resources.

Cahyo added that, as a member of the council overseeing public welfare, he is prepared to fully support the synergy between the central government, the BGN, and local governments. Strengthening governance is considered crucial so that the benefits of the programme are felt directly by children in all corners of the country, including East Java. “This programme is a form of the state’s presence in meeting the nutritional needs of Indonesian children while preparing the nation’s strength for the future,” he asserted.

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto conducted a total reshuffle of the BGN leadership. In addition to the Head position, the President also inaugurated Agustina Arumsari and Major General TNI Trenggono as Deputy Heads of the BGN to strengthen cross-sectoral coordination in the implementation of the national nutrition programme.
