Changan Indonesia Introduces Deepal S05, Set for Launch This Year

JAKARTA - A new initiative is being prepared by PT Changan Auto Indonesia in the electric vehicle market in the country. After introducing two of its flagship models, this Chinese manufacturer is gearing up to add new ammunition to challenge the national automotive market this year.

CEO of Changan Indonesia, Setiawan Surya, stated that Changan Indonesia currently has only two models, namely the Lumin and Deepal S07. Plans are in place to launch several new models this year to provide more choices for consumers.

Interestingly, one of Changan’s main focuses moving forward is to introduce environmentally friendly technology that can address public doubts about charging infrastructure.

Ridjal Mulyadi, Head of Marketing for Changan Indonesia, said that the next model to be launched is an electrified vehicle, namely a range-extended electric vehicle (REEV).

REEV technology itself is a system where the car is fully powered by an electric motor, but it still carries an internal combustion engine that functions purely as a generator to charge the battery when the energy level starts to deplete.

Ridjal added that the S05 REEV provides a smooth and instant driving sensation like an electric vehicle. However, it offers flexibility thanks to the generator engine, so drivers do not need to worry about travel distance (range anxiety).

Although they have revealed the type of technology, management is still keeping information about the exact launch schedule for the unit to the public tightly under wraps.

“We will provide further information on the launch of the S05. But it will be launched this year as well,” he said.

Regarding technical details and the price to be offered in the Indonesian market, Ridjal asked enthusiasts to be a little patient until the launch day arrives.

“The month and time will be announced soon to everyone, the price will be fully disclosed at the launch, including specifications,” he said.
