Entering the Indonesian automotive market is certainly no easy feat for a new brand, especially one originating from China. Issues concerning aftersales services and brand longevity often haunt potential consumers when considering vehicles from relatively new marques. Changan’s presence in Indonesia does not merely bring products but prioritises corporate reputation as the foundation of customer trust. CEO of Changan Indonesia, Setiawan Surya, stated that based on information received, Changan ranks among the top four best-selling manufacturers in China. “Thus, consumers need not worry if this manufacturer suddenly falters. Especially regarding the sustainability of products of all kinds,” said Setiawan to reporters when met in Chongqing, China, on Sunday (19/4/2026). Setiawan added that Indonesian consumers should not worry about Changan. Besides its position in China as a state-owned enterprise, its sales in Indonesia are bolstered by the Indomobil Group. The strategic partnership with Indomobil Group serves as Changan’s trump card. Considering Indomobil’s extensive track record in the national automotive industry, this step is taken to ensure that the brand introduced has solid and sustainable business foundations. “Indomobil has been in the car business in Indonesia for more than 50 years. So, Indomobil is also cautious about whether this product is durable or not, whether the backing is strong or not, whether it can endure or not,” said Setiawan. For Changan and its local partner, building trust is a long-term investment. The risk of failure in maintaining brand existence not only impacts sales but also the reputation built over decades. “If we handle a car brand that lasts only briefly and then collapses, it will be very troublesome. In the end, consumers will lose trust,” he said.
