Changan and MG Approach EV Consumers Through Mall Exhibitions
JAKARTA — Automotive manufacturers are intensifying their electric vehicle marketing strategies by directly approaching consumers through exhibitions in shopping centres. This approach is being adopted by Changan and MG Motor Indonesia throughout April 2026.
Changan Indonesia, under the Indomobil Group, is holding a series of simultaneous mall exhibitions at 15 locations across various cities. These exhibitions form part of an expansion strategy to broaden market reach while increasing public awareness of electric vehicles.
Major cities are targeted, from Jakarta and Bandung to Surabaya and Makassar. The selected venues are predominantly shopping centres with urban consumer profiles, such as Mall Kelapa Gading, Senayan City, and Grand Indonesia.
At these exhibitions, Changan is displaying its electric vehicle lineup, including the Changan Lumin and Deepal S07, complete with test drive facilities and various financing programmes.
CEO of Changan Indonesia, Setiawan Surya, considers direct interaction to remain a crucial factor in purchasing decisions, even as the digital era advances.
“The physical experience with the product remains highly relevant. We want the public to see and feel directly how our electric vehicles meet modern mobility needs,” he stated in an official release on Tuesday (7/4/2026).
In addition to Changan, MG Motor Indonesia is employing a similar approach through a series of mall-to-mall exhibitions in Jakarta. The brand, under the global Morris Garages umbrella, is presenting several of its flagship electric vehicle models, including the MGS5 EV, MG4 EV, and MG ZS EV.
Chief Executive Officer of MG Motor Indonesia, Jason Huang, described mall exhibitions as an effective means to reach consumers in their daily activity spaces.
According to him, this approach not only introduces the products but also provides prospective consumers with the opportunity to test drive the vehicles directly, while understanding the features and technology offered.
