Chancellor Merz: Trump vows not to pull US troops from Germany
Berlin — German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said US President Donald Trump has pledged to maintain the United States’ military presence in Germany. ‘The President reassured me that the United States will maintain its military presence in Germany,’ Merz said after meeting Trump at the White House on Tuesday, 3 March, local time. Describing the news as good, Merz stressed that he did not expect to hear anything other than Trump’s assurances. Last year, media reports indicated that Trump was considering moving around 35,000 U.S. troops from Germany to Eastern Europe due to frustration with European allies over the war in Ukraine.
