Champs Yuso beaten in Livoli opener
JAKARTA (JP): Defending champion Yuso club of Yogyakarta was dramatically beaten in both the men's and women's divisions on the first day of the second leg of the Samator 2000 Indonesian Volleyball League (Livoli) on Monday at the Senayan Basketball Stadium, Central Jakarta.
Currently, Samator of Surabaya and Petrogres of Gresik, East Java, top the men's and women's division with 12 points each after the first series held in Surabaya from Oct. 8 to Oct. 14.
In the men's division, Bandung-based DLLAJ overwhelmed Yuso in a straight set 25-20, 31-29, 25-20 with a total score of 81-69.
Samator had an easy win crushing Apacinti of Semarang also in straight sets 25-23, 25-15, 25-19 with a total score of 75-57.
PLN of Jakarta beat DPPK 25-23, 25-22, 25-19 with a total score of 75-64.
In another match, Jakarta-based Bank BNI managed to turn things around to defeat Bandung-based Perhutani in five sets 19- 25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-14, 15-10 with a total score of 107-97.
Meanwhile, Bank BNI's women's team also had no difficulty in defeating Yuso 25-12, 25-21, 25-21 with a total score of 75-54 in the women's division.
Perhutani lost a set before beating Jakarta-based Indonesian Military (TNI) Headquarters 25-20, 25-13, 17-25, 25-13 with a total score of 92-73.
In another match, PLN women's team also beat its opponent, Pospsivo 25-22, 22-25, 26-24, 25-6 with a total score of 98-74.
Petrogres had a bye in the first day.
The league is using a round robin system with an ultimate match to determine the four best clubs of each division which will compete in the final four in January 2001. (nvn)
