Challenges and Aspirations on National Education Day 2026
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The commemoration of National Education Day (Hardiknas) 2026 became a moment for reflection as well as reinforcement of the direction of Indonesia’s educational future. The government, parliament, and stakeholders agreed that progress has been achieved, but challenges in equity and quality remain significant tasks. Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto emphasised that education cannot be solely shouldered by the state. He invited all elements of the nation to actively participate in building a strong education ecosystem. “The state, families, schools, universities, society, businesses, educators, researchers, students, and university students—all are architects of Indonesia’s future,” said Brian while leading the Hardiknas 2026 ceremony in Jakarta on Saturday (2/5/2026). “Because strong education is not built by one party, but through the collective effort of the entire nation,” he stated. In his address, Brian also conveyed a message of optimism to the younger generation to dare to dream big. “To the students and university students, continue to learn, question, try, and create. Do not be afraid to dream big. Indonesia’s future is not inherited; it is built through character, knowledge, cooperation and collaboration, as well as the courage to move forward,” he said. The values inherited from Ki Hajar Dewantara, such as asah (sharpening), asih (affection), and asuh (nurturing), are considered still relevant in shaping the nation’s character and civilisation. “Education is not just about what we know, but about who we become,” said Brian. In addition, he also presented awards to teachers, lecturers, education staff, and researchers who are deemed to play an important role in shaping the nation’s future. He invited all elements to deliver inclusive, relevant, and impactful education. “Let us join hands to strengthen universal participation and deliver high-quality education that is inclusive, relevant, and impactful for all,” he stated.
