Habiburokhman, chairman of House Commission III, has condemned the acid attack against Andrie Yunus, deputy coordinator of KontraS, which occurred on the evening of 12 March. Habib stated he had called the Metro Jaya Police Chief, Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri, and requested that law enforcement move swiftly to investigate the case.

“We have contacted the Metro Jaya Police Chief and requested that police move quickly to investigate this case and apprehend the perpetrators,” Habib said in a statement on Saturday, 14 March.

The chairman of the House’s legal and security commission stressed that all forms of violence against citizens must not be tolerated. He emphasised that any differences cannot be resolved through thuggery.

Article 28G of the 1945 Constitution, he noted, guarantees every person the right to personal protection, security, and protection from threats and fear.

“We will ensure that Commission III continues to oversee this case so that the investigation proceeds quickly and professionally,” he said.

Habib also requested maximum protection for Andrie Yunus during his medical treatment. The Gerindra politician called on the state to bear the full cost of Andrie’s healthcare.

“We request that the state cover the full cost of the best medical treatment so he can recover quickly,” he said.

Andrie was attacked with acid whilst riding his motorcycle in the Salemba area, East Jakarta, after attending a podcast at the YLBHI office on the evening of 12 March.

KontraS Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya disclosed identifying features of the suspected perpetrator: the driver was wearing a white-blue combination shirt, dark trousers believed to be jeans, and a black helmet.

The second perpetrator, who was the passenger, wore a black face covering or mask resembling a “buff” that covered half the face, a dark blue shirt, and blue trousers folded short and believed to be made of denim.

“One of the perpetrators then poured acid towards the victim, striking parts of the victim’s body. As a result of the attack, the victim immediately screamed in pain and dropped his motorcycle,” he said in a written statement.
