Chair of Commission III: Investigate Thoroughly, Do Not Shield Perpetrators in KontraS Case
Chair of Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Habiburokhman, has requested that investigators from Polda Metro Jaya not rule out any possibilities regarding the parties involved in the case of the dousing of KontraS activists. He stressed that the investigation must reveal the facts comprehensively. “Our message as supervisors is for the National Police and fellow investigators to simply carry out their duties as they should, reveal the events, the facts—whether there are civilians involved or not; it will emerge during the investigation process,” said Habiburokhman during a press conference on Wednesday (18/3). He reminded investigators not to rush to conclusions about the involved parties, whether from civilian circles or certain institutions. “So, do not close off the possibilities yet, like ‘oh, this is all civilians’ or ‘oh, this is all TNI’. Do not close it now; just carry out the investigation duties,” he stated. According to him, the investigation process must be able to clearly uncover the events that occurred, including the roles of each party in the case. He also added that all involved parties must be held legally accountable, without exception. “The investigation is to clearly uncover the events, right? The investigation also determines who played what role. The point is, as per the previous special meeting decision of Commission III, whoever is involved—whether ordering, planning, executing, or assisting in the execution—must be held legally accountable,” he asserted. He also mentioned that the technical handling mechanism is regulated in the applicable legal provisions, namely Article 170 of the new Criminal Code.
