Chair of Commission I Backs TNI Readiness Raised to Standby Level 1 to Safeguard National Stability Amid Conflict
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Indonesian House of Representatives Commission I supports the move by the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) to raise the readiness status to Standby Level 1 in response to the escalation of conflict in the Middle East.
Deputy Speaker of Commission I, Dave Laksono, said the policy demonstrates the readiness of the defence apparatus to face global dynamics while maintaining national security stability.
‘Developments in the Middle East at present require vigilance, but the TNI’s decision to raise readiness status reflects a strong commitment to safeguarding national security,’ Dave said when contacted on Sunday (8 March 2026).
‘This shows the readiness of the defence apparatus to face global dynamics, while giving the public reassurance that the state is present with full responsibility,’ Dave added.
Therefore, Dave believes that TNI readiness is not merely a response to international developments but a manifestation of Indonesia’s commitment to maintaining national stability.
The Golkar politician is optimistic that Indonesia can face current global dynamics without compromising domestic stability.
Earlier, TNI Commander Agus Subiyanto ordered all TNI ranks to raise readiness to Standby Level 1 to anticipate the increasingly dynamic global developments, particularly the escalation of conflicts in the Middle East.
The order appeared in Telegram from the TNI Commander No TR/283/2026, signed by the Commander’s Operations Assistant, Maj. Gen. Bobby Rinal Makmun, on 1 March 2026.
Head of the TNI Information Centre, Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, confirmed the existence of the telegram.
He explained that the heightened readiness is part of the TNI’s core duties in safeguarding the state.
‘It should be noted that under the mandate of the TNI Law, one of the TNI’s core duties is to protect the entire nation and all its blood from threats and disturbances to the integrity of the nation and state,’ Aulia said.
The Standby Level 1 status has been in effect since 1 March 2026 and continues for an unspecified period.
