Chair of BPK Meets Heads of MIKTA Member SAIs
The Chair of the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK), Isma Yatun, held a meeting with the heads of the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of MIKTA member nations, comprising Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Türkiye, and Australia.
“The Chair of BPK conveyed BPK’s strategic role as a member of the United Nations Board of Auditors (UN BoA) for the 2026-2032 period, which will impact the enhancement of BPK’s accountability and public trust, while encouraging the strengthening of global accountability and supporting Indonesia’s diplomatic standing,” stated the Head of Public Relations and International Cooperation, Teguh Widodo, in an official statement in Jakarta on Friday.
MIKTA SAIs is a cooperation forum for the SAIs of MIKTA member states. MIKTA SAIs serves as an outreach of MIKTA, a cross-regional group of G20 member nations that functions as a consultative platform to increase mutual understanding, deepen bilateral relations, and assist in finding common ground for cooperation.
The meeting was led by the Auditor-General of Australia (Australian National Audit Office/SAI Australia) in her capacity as the Chair of MIKTA SAIs for 2026, Caralee McLiesh. The meeting was also attended by other member SAI heads, including the Commissioner of the Board of Audit and Inspection of Korea, Choi Seung Pil, and the President of the Turkish Court of Accounts, Metin Yener.
The Australian SAI Chair officially opened the meeting under the theme “Impact Where it Matters,” emphasising the spirit of MIKTA SAIs to create and measure the real impact of SAI work in promoting increased accountability and audit results that are relevant and beneficial to the public.
The MIKTA SAIs meeting also served as a dialogue forum among SAI heads regarding the auditing of non-financial reporting, particularly concerning the audit of performance reports and climate disclosures.
The International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) Development Initiative (IDI) was also present to present joint research findings with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) regarding informal factors that influence SAI independence.
As a follow-up, MIKTA SAIs member institutions agreed to continue active collaboration, both bilaterally and multilaterally, through the MIKTA SAIs forum and relevant INTOSAI working groups to strengthen the role of SAIs within the accountability ecosystem.
“Furthermore, MIKTA SAIs member institutions will hold a side meeting at the 26th International Congress of Supreme Audit Institutions (INCOSAI) in 2028 in Bali, which will be hosted by BPK, marking the beginning of BPK’s chairmanship of INTOSAI for the 2028-2031 period,” added Teguh.
