Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Provincial Government has temporarily suspended the implementation of the Car Free Day (CFD) on Jalan HR Rasuna Said on Sunday, May 17th, and will resume it in June 2026.

The Head of the Jakarta Transportation Department, Syafrin Liputo, stated that the CFD on Rasuna Said will resume after a number of on-site evaluations have been addressed.

According to him, the evaluation results show that the implementation of the CFD on the Rasuna Said corridor provides benefits to the community, both in terms of public space and environmental quality.

“The CFD on Jalan HR Rasuna Said adds an alternative space for sports and public space for the community. The results of air quality measurements around the location during the CFD implementation were also recorded as being better compared to working days,” said Syafrin in Jakarta on Saturday.

Furthermore, he said that the presence of the CFD on Rasuna Said also helped reduce the density of visitors in the Sudirman-Thamrin area.

Based on data from the Jakarta Transportation Department, the number of visitors to the provincial-level CFD on the Jalan Jenderal Sudirman-MH Thamrin corridor decreased from 29,256 people on May 3rd, 2026 to 13,759 people on May 10th, 2026, or a decrease of approximately 52.97 percent.

“This condition shows that the CFD on HR Rasuna Said can disperse the concentration of people in Sudirman-Thamrin so that community activities are more spread out,” said Syafrin.

In addition, the arrangement of MSMEs also needs to be improved because the activities of traders have expanded to the middle of the road. Several road work projects on alternative routes are also still causing congestion.

The Jakarta Transportation Department also noted that there are still differences in road height levels after the dismantling of the monorail pillars and the accumulation of community activities in the Plaza Festival area, causing runners and cyclists to be forced to use the Transjakarta bus lanes.

Syafrin ensured that all of these obstacles will be immediately addressed together with the cross-agency CFD task force.

Furthermore, the Jakarta Provincial Government is also preparing a legal basis for the implementation of the CFD on Jalan HR Rasuna Said.

“Improvements to supporting facilities and the arrangement of community activities will be carried out so that the implementation of the CFD on Rasuna Said can be carried out more safely, comfortably, and orderly,” said Syafrin.

The CFD on Jalan HR Rasuna Said is planned to resume in June 2026, every Sunday, from 05.30-09.00 WIB.

The Jakarta Provincial Government hopes that the presence of the new CFD corridor can expand public access to public spaces for sports and interaction in the city center.
