JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Jakarta Provincial Government will temporarily suspend the implementation of Car Free Day (CFD) on Jalan HR Rasuna Said on Sunday, May 17th, 2026.

The temporary suspension is being implemented because there are still several evaluation points from the initial implementation of the CFD in the area.

The Jakarta Provincial Transportation Department stated that the CFD on Jalan HR Rasuna Said will resume starting in June 2026 after various improvements and arrangements have been completed.

“The CFD on Jalan HR Rasuna Said is planned to resume starting in June 2026 every Sunday from 05:30-09:00 WIB,” said Syafrin, quoted from his statement, Sunday (May 17th, 2026).

According to Syafrin, the implementation of the CFD on May 10th, 2026 still left several technical constraints in the field. One of them is the lack of vehicle turning points on the east and west sides of the corridor.

In addition, the Transjakarta lane dividers have not been fully installed. The Jakarta Provincial Transportation Department also found illegal parking at several points during the implementation of the CFD.

Other problems arose from the arrangement of MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises), which were deemed to be disorganized because the activities of traders spread to the middle of the road. At the same time, a number of road work projects on alternative routes are also still causing traffic congestion around the location.

Not only that, but the concentration of community activity in the Plaza Festival area caused some runners and cyclists to use the Transjakarta bus lanes.

“Improvements to supporting facilities and the arrangement of community activities will be carried out so that the implementation of the CFD on Rasuna Said is safer, more comfortable, and more organized,” he said.

“The results of air quality measurements around the location during the implementation of the CFD were also recorded as being better than on working days,” he said.

Based on data from the Jakarta Provincial Transportation Department, the number of visitors to the provincial-level CFD on the Jalan Jenderal Sudirman–MH Thamrin corridor decreased from 29,256 people on May 3rd, 2026 to 13,759 people on May 10th, 2026, or a decrease of around 52.97 percent.

“This condition shows that the CFD on HR Rasuna Said can break up the concentration of crowds in Sudirman–Thamrin so that community activities are more dispersed,” he said.
