CFD on Rasuna Said Road to be Held Regularly Starting in June, Until 9:00 AM
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Jakarta Provincial Government will hold a car-free day (CFD) regularly on Jalan HR Rasuna Said starting next June. This means that no CFD will be held in the area this Sunday.
The Head of the Jakarta Provincial Transportation Department, Syafrin Liputo, said that his department had conducted an evaluation regarding the implementation of the CFD on Jalan HR Rasuna Said on Sunday (May 10th, 2026). According to him, the implementation of the CFD on Rasuna Said last week still left several points for evaluation.
“These include the lack of turning points on the east and west sides of the corridor, the absence of Transjakarta lane dividers, and the continued presence of illegal parking in several locations,” he said in a statement on Saturday (May 16th, 2026).
He added that the arrangement of MSMEs also needs to be improved because the activities of traders have expanded onto the road. On the other hand, several road work projects on alternative routes are still causing traffic congestion.
The Transportation Department noted that there were still differences in road height levels after the dismantling of the monorail pillars. In addition, there was a buildup of community activity in the Plaza Festival area, causing runners and cyclists to use the Transjakarta bus lanes.
Syafrin ensured that all these obstacles would be followed up with a cross-agency working team for the CFD. The Jakarta Provincial Government is also preparing a legal basis for the implementation of the CFD on Jalan HR Rasuna Said.
“Improvements to supporting facilities and the arrangement of community activities will be carried out so that the implementation of the CFD on Rasuna Said can run more safely, comfortably, and orderly,” he said.
He stated that the CFD on Jalan HR Rasuna Said is planned to be held again starting in June 2026 every Sunday from 5:30 AM to 9:00 AM. The Jakarta Provincial Government hopes that the presence of the new CFD corridor can expand public access to public spaces for exercise and interaction in the city center.
Syafrin believes that the implementation of the CFD on the Rasuna Said corridor benefits the community, both in terms of public space and environmental quality. “The CFD on Jalan HR Rasuna Said adds an alternative sports space and public space for the community. The results of air quality measurements around the location during the implementation of the CFD were also recorded as being better than on working days,” he said.
According to him, the presence of the CFD on Rasuna Said also helps reduce congestion in the Sudirman-Thamrin area. Based on data from the Transportation Department, the number of visitors to the provincial-level CFD on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman-MH Thamrin decreased from 29,256 people on May 3rd, 2026 to 13,759 people on May 10th, 2026, or a decrease of about 52.97 percent.
