Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the “Car Free Day” (CFD) or Motor Vehicle-Free Day (HBKB) activity on Jalan Rasuna Said in Jakarta is an effort by the government to show that Jakarta is improving and gaining a new icon.

“Why is it held on Jalan Rasuna Said? We want to show the public that Jakarta is undergoing improvements,” Pramono said in Jakarta on Sunday.

According to him, Jalan Rasuna Said, which previously had hundreds of abandoned monorail pillars, has now changed its face, with those pillars having been demolished.

Pramono said that although construction on Jalan Rasuna Said is still ongoing, public enthusiasm is high, so the DKI Government has opened CFD and several activities in the area.

For the CFD on Rasuna Said, he said, it will be implemented effectively on 1 June 2026 after all work on the road is completed.

“Later, it will be carried out effectively from 1 June. Why is this being held? Because of the extraordinary public demand, and earlier I was surprised and shocked,” he said.

Previously, thousands of residents were seen enthusiastically engaging in various activities on the first day of Motor Vehicle-Free Day (HBKB) or “Car Free Day” (CFD) on Jalan Rasuna Said, South Jakarta, on Sunday morning, after the DKI Provincial Government opened the area as a CFD zone.

ANTARA reported from the location on Sunday that since the morning, thousands of residents enthusiastically carried out various activities, such as walking, cycling, light jogging, and other activities. Even though the area is still under construction, the public is very enthusiastic.

One resident who was active at the location, Laila, said that she chose Jalan Rasuna Said to enjoy Motor Vehicle-Free Day (HBKB) with friends and family.

She said that because the area had just been opened for activities on Sunday, and she wanted to experience the excitement of CFD besides the Bundaran HI area.
