Cerita Lila Opens New Collaboration Pathways in the National Film Ecosystem
The Indonesian film industry continually generates new collaborations that strengthen the national film ecosystem. One such collaboration comes from Show Token, a technology-based entertainment platform demonstrating its commitment to supporting local works. Its involvement in the film Cerita Lila marks the platform’s debut and expansion into the domestic entertainment industry.
Show Token COO Joshua Khubani revealed that the decision to invest in the film was based on the strength of the intellectual property (IP) that forms the story’s concept. The film Cerita Lila is adapted from the Diary Misteri Sara content, which has been viewed 11 million times. “I saw that the IP was very strong,” Joshua said after the screening of Cerita Lila at Epicentrum XXI, Kuningan, Jakarta, on Friday.
Additionally, the production house and cast were major considerations. “Then the production house MVP Pictures is legendary, with a cast that is also strong. That is why Show Token entered and invested in this film,” he explained. Joshua also assessed that the content built by Sara Wijayanto has a solid fan community that played a significant role in the film’s journey. “Their role is very important, because the fan base from there is what can make this film a success,” he stated optimistically.
Directed by Bobby Prasetyo, Cerita Lila stars a number of actors including Lutesha, Shareefa Daanish, Sara Wijayanto, Meysha Lin, Firzanah Alya, Wafda Saifan, and Whani Darmawan. The screenplay was written by Erwanto Alphadullah and Gea Rexy.
After Cerita Lila, Joshua confirmed he will continue his efforts in supporting the Indonesian film industry. “We have around 30 titles currently under discussion. Not just horror, but also comedy and drama. What matters is that the story is worth telling and the market is real,” he said. Joshua added that films financed by Show Token are not much different from conventionally financed films. “Professionally, it is the same. However, we are more transparent and there is public participation. We have blockchain infrastructure that provides access for the public to support Indonesian films,” Joshua elaborated. Furthermore, Token Show holders can gain access and experiences not available with ordinary films. “Starting from exclusive screenings, behind-the-scenes content, and opportunities for meet and greets with the cast,” Joshua continued. Beyond film, Show Token will be involved in other entertainment industry sectors in the future. “We will also be involved in other industries such as concerts,” Joshua concluded.
