Ceremony attracts Gus Dur, Megawati

BLITAR, East Java: Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Muslim
Islamic, Abdurrahman Wahid, known as Gus Dur, and chairperson of
the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan),
Megawati Soekarnoputri, are scheduled to attend an annual
ceremony in Blitar held in honor of the first president,
Soekarno, on June 20.

Antara on Tuesday quoted a spokesman of the Soekarno family as
saying that an invitation was sent to Abdurrahman, who is
Megawati's close associate. They are both presidential candidates
of their respective parties.

The grounds of the grave site of Soekarno, Megawati's father,
who died on June 21, 1970, are usually swarmed with crowds, who,
among others, join in the Koran reading, a regular feature of the
commemoration.
