Central Sulawesi DPRD Highlights Four Issues with PT CPM Gold Mine, Calls for Evaluation

Palu (ANTARA) - Commission III of the Central Sulawesi Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) has highlighted four issues concerning the operations of gold mining company PT Citra Palu Minerals (CPM) in Palu City, namely its licensing status, underground mining plans, tailings management, and partnership with the surrounding community. Commission III Chairman Dandy Adhi Prabowo stated that the company’s processing activities should serve as material for evaluating central government policies regarding the designation of mineral and coal producing and processing regions. Dandy referred to Law Number 3 of 2020, Government Regulation Number 39 of 2025, and Central Sulawesi Provincial Regulation Number 1 of 2026, which govern the calculation, reporting, and deposit of regional revenue from the net profits of Special Mining Business Permit (IUPK) holders. “This needs to be reviewed from the regulatory side. We are asking the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to evaluate the legal and licensing status of PT CPM,” he said. The next issue is the underground mine development plan, which the DPRD believes requires a comprehensive study considering the geological conditions of Palu City and Central Sulawesi. “Operational safety and public safety must be the priority, especially since this area is located in a region with active fault lines,” he said. Commission III also highlighted tailings management, requesting data and analysis results to ensure that waste management complies with environmental provisions and standards. “The waste issue, visually, appears to follow mining principles, but the analysis is not yet available,” Dandy said. “The issue of partnership with the community remains unclear, even though this was already a recommendation from the DPRD hearing with the communities around the mine. This should be realised immediately.”
