Central Sulawesi BPBD Conducts Data Collection on Flood Impacts in North Pamona
The Central Sulawesi Provincial Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD Sulteng) is coordinating and conducting data collection on the impacts of flooding that occurred in Saojo Village, North Pamona Subdistrict, Poso Regency. Acting Head of the BPBD Central Sulawesi Asbudianto stated in Palu on Sunday that heavy rains that lashed the area since Saturday night (11/4) caused flooding from the mountainous direction, submerging residents’ settlements. “Based on the preliminary report so far, the flood has submerged around 60 residents’ houses,” he said. He added that besides submerging houses, the flood has also disrupted public transportation access. Two-wheeled vehicles must take alternative routes to avoid water puddles still covering the road. He conveyed that there were no fatalities in the incident, while the number of evacuees is still being tallied by field officers. In addition, the BPBD has identified several urgent needs at the incident site, one of which is the construction of drainage to anticipate similar floods in the future. His side also urged the public to remain alert to the potential for extreme weather that could still occur. Meanwhile, the latest conditions at the incident site still show water puddles submerging residents’ houses, although they are gradually receding.
