Nabire (ANTARA) - The Central Papua Provincial Government is relying on the Full-Day School (SSH) programme as the primary strategy to improve the quality of human resources (HR), particularly for children in remote areas.

Central Papua Governor Meki Nawipa in Nabire on Tuesday stated that SSH is a dormitory-style school where students receive not only formal education but also fulfilment of basic needs such as nutritious food, hygiene facilities, and bathing equipment.

“We are pushing for SSH to be implemented across all districts in Central Papua because this programme is designed to address educational access challenges, especially in remote areas,” he said.

He added that the Central Papua Provincial Government has allocated a budget of Rp20 billion to build an SSH in Puncak Regency as a pilot, with very satisfactory results.

In addition, other district governments are encouraged to build one additional SSH through support from special autonomy funds (otsus) from the district APBD, so that each district has two schools with a similar concept.

“The Governor funds one, the Regent funds one, so every district has two SSH schools,” he said.

“In mountainous areas, many reject MBG, so we package it in the form of SSH so it can be accepted and directly felt by the children,” he said.

He stressed that developing the education sector is key to improving the Human Development Index (HDI) of Central Papua.

Provincial government data shows that Central Papua’s HDI in 2025 increased from 60.25 points to 60.64 points, or an rise of 0.39 points.

“There is no great person in this world without schooling. Therefore, we ensure that Central Papua’s children can get decent education, especially in the villages,” said Meki Nawipa.
