Central Papua proposes two new district prosecutor's offices towards establishment of High Prosecutor's Office
Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai has received a proposal for the establishment of a High Prosecutor’s Office (Kejati) for Central Papua, submitted during a meeting with the local Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) to be forwarded to the central government.
The proposal was discussed in a meeting with Central Papua’s Forkopimda in Nabire on Sunday, as part of gathering aspirations regarding the need to strengthen law enforcement institutions in the province.
Pigai said the establishment of the Central Papua High Prosecutor’s Office requires the fulfilment of several institutional requirements.
According to him, one of the requirements that must be met is the existence of at least four District Prosecutor’s Offices (Kejari), whereas Central Papua currently has two Kejari, namely the Nabire Kejari and the Mimika Kejari.
“However, the establishment of the Central Papua High Prosecutor’s Office requires at least four District Prosecutor’s Offices as one of the requirements,” he said.
Pigai said the proposal was submitted by the Head of the Nabire District Prosecutor’s Office, Muhammad Yuris Rawando.
The meeting also discussed regional mapping for the possible establishment of two new Kejari to meet the needs of law enforcement services in Central Papua.
One Kejari is planned to cover the regencies of Paniai, Deiyai, and Dogiyai, while the other Kejari is planned to cover Puncak and Puncak Jaya Regencies.
“Thus, once these two District Prosecutor’s Offices are established, it becomes a prerequisite for the establishment of the High Prosecutor’s Office,” Pigai said.
He said the proposal will be forwarded to the central government for follow-up in accordance with the applicable authority and provisions.
According to Pigai, the gathering of aspirations is part of government coordination with stakeholders in Central Papua to strengthen public services and law enforcement institutions in the region.
