Central Papua Police Uncover Hoax Photo Claimed as Dogiyai Victim

Nabire (ANTARA) - The Central Papua Regional Police have uncovered the circulation of a hoax photo claimed to be of victims from the unrest in Dogiyai Regency, but it turns out to be old documentation from another region.

The Head of Public Relations of the Central Papua Regional Police, AKBP I Made Suartika, in Nabire on Monday, stated that the photo widely circulating on social media and messaging applications has been proven unrelated to the recent incident in Dogiyai.

“The dissemination of such misleading information has the potential to mislead the public and exacerbate the security situation in Central Papua,” he said.

He explained that a photo was circulating on social media, posted by the KNPB News Nabire account and widely shared via WhatsApp, claiming it depicted the unrest in the Dogiyai area.

“That information is a hoax post that has the potential to mislead the public and exacerbate the security situation,” he stated.

Additionally, an image circulating on social media, claimed to be victims of the unrest in Dogiyai on 31 March 2026, was featured in a news report by one of the media outlets in Papua on 3 April 2026.

However, upon investigation, it was found that the photo is not a new incident but the same image that had previously been published by one of the media outlets in Papua on 27 February 2026.

He assured that the security situation in Dogiyai is currently monitored as safe and conducive, although security forces continue to enhance patrols and surveillance to anticipate potential public order disturbances.

The Central Papua Regional Police urge the public not to easily believe unverified information sources, not to disseminate unverified content, and to jointly maintain a conducive security situation.

“With this clarification, it is hoped that the public will be more prudent in receiving and filtering information so as not to be influenced by issues that could divide unity,” he said.
